ASCA

ASCA (Accelerating Smart Capacities in Agroindustry) is an Interreg Sudoe project dedicated to the sustainable and digital transition of agro-industrial SMEs.

The project addresses several major challenges faced by the agro-industrial sector in Southwestern Europe : increasing costs, technological hurdles, climate-related issues and limited flow of knowledge between academia and the business sector, especially in the more rural areas of the SUDOE region

In this context, ASCA will develop a collaborative program between training centers, students, and SMEs with the objective of strenghtening knowledge and skills, promoting practical applications and facilitating the implementation of innovation projects for the sustainable industrial transition of agro-industrial SMEs.

  • Global budget : 1,581,706.13
  • FEDER funding : 1,186,279.60
  • Project duration: 36 months (01/06/2025 – 31/05/2028)

Objectives

The overall objective of ASCA is to strengthen the collaboration between universities, training centres and companies in order to support the sustainable industrial transition of agro-industrial SMEs in the Sudoe area.

The specific objectives are :

  • Strengthen collaboration between universities, training centres and businesses
  • Support the industrial, green and digital transition of agro-industrial SMEs
  • Promote skills development and knowledge transfer between SMEs and students

Consortium

  • 10 partners
  • 3 countries
  • 36-month project

ASCA brings together partners from Spain, France and Portugal to foster transnational cooperation and accelerate innovation in agroindustry.

Project Approach

ASCA is based on two complementary actions designed to ensure effective knowledge transfer toward agro-industrial SMEs.

First, the project will develop two joint training programmes: one for 170 agro-industrial SMEs, helping them better understand their challenges and possible solutions, and one for 280 higher education students in STEM fields.

Second, ASCA will turn identified challenges into concrete projects by matching 100 qualified students with 100 SMEs, under the supervision of project partners. This collaborative model is designed to support the smart and sustainable transition of SMEs while encouraging talent retention and knowledge circulation across SUDOE territories.
